Rejin Leys is a Haitian-American artist based in New York. Her drawings and books create new narratives based on imagery derived from social and political issues and current events. Through related public projects, she also seeks to bridge the gap between artists and audiences and explore ways to expand cultural programming, particularly in underserved communities.
Exhibited in museums and galleries internationally, her drawings and prints have also been featured in such print publications as Small Axe, Boutures, The North Star Fund’s Annual Report (2000 and 2005), and the Bread & Roses Cultural Project Social Justice Calendar, as well as online publications such as Kreyolicious and Repeating Islands. In 1995 she was awarded a fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts.
Her current project, @ArtBoxNY, is a vending machine for miniature artworks which is housed at the Queens Museum of Art.
